Faisalabad is the biggest city of Pakistan. It is also a biggest industrial city in Pakistan as well as in the world.The old name of this city was Layyelpur and the current name of this city is Faisalabad. The City is catering to the needs of more than six million people. Agriculture and industry remain the of Faisalabad with a powerful and ever developing thrust in these fields.
Government College University, Faisalabad is the top ranked university in Pakistan. It has many campuses in Pakistan.The Government College University, Faisalabad journey started as a primary school in 1897 in the building of Govt. College for Women, Karkhana Bazar, Faisalabad. It was changed to High School and Intermediate College in 1905 and 1924 respectively. During the headmastership of Lala Harkishen Das, the school became very popular. With the sympathetic support of Col. Douglas, the then Deputy Commissioner of Faisalabad, Lala Harkishen Das was able to persuade the department to sanction a grant for the new block. The school continued to make progress in education and the next principal of note was Sheikh Mohammad Zahur-ud-Din, now Inspector of schools, Rawalpindi Division.
The Government College University has a long history of good education and good ranking as an institution. Many scholars and famous personalities have served this institution in various capacities at the various occasion. It has produced outstanding personnel who have earned great fame not only for themselves but also for the nation.
The University is offering educational degrees in the different department. The University is a hub of education, social and cultural activities with a close liaison with industry.
